# Entity resolution

> How Qoory handles aliases, duplicate names, tickers, and social identities.

Entity resolution turns names, aliases, symbols, handles, URLs, and relationship
evidence into a stable Qoory entity. It is necessary because crypto identity is
messy: several projects can share a name, symbols can be reused, and social
accounts can change ownership or branding.

## Resolution signals

Qoory can use combinations of:

* Canonical names, aliases, and slugs.
* Official websites and profile links.
* Token contracts, symbols, chains, and linked projects.
* Team, investor, and portfolio relationships.
* X handles and links to known people or projects.
* Context from the query, such as an entity type or chain filter.

## Ambiguity

When several entities remain plausible, search should return bounded candidates
instead of silently choosing one. Narrow the query with an entity type, chain,
handle, ticker, or related project.

## X accounts

An X account is its own entity. Qoory may link it to a person or project when
that relationship is supported, but an unlinked account remains searchable. This
prevents an uncertain social identity from overwriting a structured person or
project profile.

## Corrections

Identity mistakes have a large downstream effect because they can attach news,
funding, or market data to the wrong record. Report suspected duplicate or
mislinked entities with both URLs and the evidence for the correct relationship.
