# Sources and freshness

> Understand Qoory's source hierarchy, update cadence, and stale-data behavior.

Qoory combines structured databases, public market and DeFi data, official
project material, public filings, on-chain records, reputable reporting, GitHub,
and directly linked social evidence. The exact source mix depends on the field
or research task.

## Source preference

Qoory prefers sources close to the underlying fact:

1. Official documentation, public filings, protocol data, and direct records.
2. Specialized data providers with a clear observation model.
3. Reputable reporting and directly linked social evidence.
4. AI extraction or synthesis only when the supporting source trail is retained.

No source is authoritative for every field. Project mechanics may come from
official documentation while live prices, TVL, funding, and news use different
sources.

## Freshness is dataset-specific

There is no single "Qoory refresh rate." Market snapshots, news, social signals,
entity profiles, funding rounds, and historical research have different update
cadences. Where available, Qoory exposes an observation time, publication time,
or last-updated time with the data.

## Stale and unavailable data

Qoory can retain an older value when a newer observation is unavailable. A
ranking may also apply a freshness penalty so stale records do not remain highly
ranked solely from accumulated historical signals.

If a value is absent, Qoory should return an unavailable or nullable field. It
should not manufacture a replacement value.

## Source visibility

User-facing citations should identify the source that supports the claim.
Source collection and processing details that do not help a reader verify the
claim are not included in user-facing responses.
